Analogous to that of a river, time is ever-flowing entity. As time flows, things change, and with that change come traits which were unknown to us before. These traits may be concrete and immediate or they may be a subtle and developing entity. While the concrete and variant elements are usually very apparent in the reality, aspects like wisdom and knowledge are a prime example of traits which are harder and less immediately realized.
In the beginning everyone can be compared to that of a stream: small, weak, outside sources are required to aid its flow. However, after a while, a stream becomes a river. Similarly that river can someday become become part of an ocean. In essence, everyone starts out small. It is only after a certain amount of help and experience is gained that a person can start to live out their lives and dreams to their full potential. Of course, an important factor that precedes all is the characteristic known as effort. Without effort and the determination to succeed, a person applies limitations on their own character. These limits consequently falter the stability of an individual's potential, thus slowing down the development of their character.
So just like a stream becomes a river, and a river has the capacity to one day become part of an ocean, experience and sheer determination/effort are the foundation that allow us the aptitude to further our knowledge, our dreams, and essentially our lives.
