Hi, my name is Melanie Roxas. I am a 22-year-old Puerto Rican & Filipina female; born and raised in Long Island, New York. My college career has allowed me to flourish and develop into the well-rounded individual that I am today. I transferred from Binghamton University and currently attend Stony Brook University. I am pursuing a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree and I will be graduating in December 2010. My major is Hispanic Languages and Literature. My bi-lingual fluencies in English and Spanish will allow me to cater to the needs of the increasing elderly population in healthcare facilities, as well as the increasing Latino population. I’m looking forward to continuing my healthcare education at Nursing School in the near future. Ultimately, I would like to become a Nurse Practitioner. My family, friends, health and happiness are the most important things to me. Along with the support of my family and friends I believe that I can achieve anything that I put my mind to.

I LOVE to travel and have been blessed to have been on a lot of vacations so far. Some of the places I went to include: Las Vegas, Atlantic City, Bahamas, Miami, South Beach, Belize and Mexico. One of my favorite past times is volunteering for ambulance agencies. My experience as an EMT has dramatically changed my life in such a positive light. I am so thankful for everything and I’ll forever be grateful. Another one of my favorite past times is high school. In high school, I was in Winter & Spring Track & Field and Volleyball for four years. I also danced throughout my high school and college career. Hopefully, when I have some free time I can dance and volunteer as an EMT again because I miss it a lot. I’m also a sister of Lambda Theta Alpha Latin Sorority, Inc.; the sisterhood is beautiful and I’m so glad I’m a part of something so great and amazing.
