Salvete Omnes! (Greetings Everyone!)
Upon my entry into WRT 102, I thought that it would be a fairly easy class. I had taken two AP English courses in high school as well as AP Latin, and due to my naïveté, I thought that I would need no more improvement. However, I learned a lot more than I thought I would, and I am all the more thankful for taking this class.
Throughout the past semester in WRT 102, I learned that one could use multiple sources in order to strengthen his or her argument about a particular matter. I learned how to efficiently read texts in order to pull out the main idea and express my opinions in a fluid, coherent manner. Most importantly, I learned that a true writer always revises his or her paper. I learned to be confident enough in my work to let others critique it. I myself took a step back and reread my work, as if I were using a foreigner’s eyes. In doing so, I learned to appreciate the process of writing more and that the work is not done simply when one is finished writing. Rather, that is where the craft of sharpening a piece into a fine work of art comes in.
I have compiled three essays, each on a different matter, in which I display the new skills that I have acquired throughout the term.
The first essay is a personal essay entitled, “Whitest Night of My Life.” In it, I illustrate the obstacle my brother and I face one fateful winter night, and the subsequent gratitude for family that follows. In my second essay “Obesity: I’m Fat ‘N’ I’m Lovin’ It”, I analyze the message in a spoof advertisement and relate it to a very real problem that haunts America. Lastly, in the essay “HIV/AIDS – The Global Enemy”, I discussed an issue that not only plagues our United States, but the entire world as well. I feel that these three essays accurately depict my level of writing skill that I have gained over the course of the class.
Best Regards and Please Enjoy,
