Executive Summary

InstaWatch

InstaWatch (IW) is a new company that will provide a high definition online video streaming service to its customers.  Unlike Netflix, InstaWatch allows its entire video media library to be watched instantly online. IW while begin operations on September 1st 2012 and will be a sole proprietorship run by Christopher Masullo.

The video media industry has changed greatly in the past few years and will continue to change at a rapid pass over the next few years as well. We have reached an age where many people have several devices that can access the internet and spend much of their time on or near one of these devices. However no provider of movies and television shows have provided a reasonable and satisfying way to access their libraries with these devices. Some services still rely on physical copies such as DVDs and Blu-ray disks to provide there service, while other companies have a very small library of video media available instantly.

IW will allow customers to watch movies, television shows, concerts, and other forms of video media instantly on various internet capable devices such as computers, smart phones, tablets, videogame devices and, smart TVs. Users would create an account and pay monthly to have access to our catalog of movies and television shows. The content then could be streamed via the internet to any device that the customer chooses to use. Customers are able to access thousands of shows and movies instantly without having to wait for DVDs by mail or have their choices restricted by a small library.

IW will focus on two target markets, people who have used similar services such as our in the past and those who are regular consumers of video media but do not use any of the media providers listed below.

Already using a service – Use a service such as Netflix, Blockbuster, Hulu, or redbox. The number of Netflix users alone is over 23 million. Combined with a number of other movie rental services in existence the total number of people using a service to watch movies is close to 40 million in the United States alone.

Consume media but have no service - Are interested in a convenient way to watch movies and television shows that they control.

There are several keys to success for IW but the following 3 are the most important. These three goals are the most important because they are the backbone of IW. If one of these keys to success are not optimized the other two will suffer.

1. Uptime – Continues uptime, minimal downtime and, server stability are crucial to ensure that customers always have access to the content they are paying for.

2. Library – The library that we offer will be larger, newer and, more expansive then any other company’s video media library. We want people to be able to watch whatever they want regardless of how new or old it is.

3. Ease of Use – We want to design our website so that anyone can use it. We want it to be clear, straightforward and, easy to navigate. A simple design is the best design when it comes to websites and media libraries.

IW makes money from monthly subscriptions purchased by customers in order to have access to the movie and television show library that IW has. The customer can buy a subscription to IW through IW’s. A one month subscription to IW would cost $10 with possible discounts for purchasing multiple months in advance, such as $55 for a six month subscription or $100 for a one year subscription.

The costs of running this company are fairly stable and should be known ahead of time. IW would have to pay for the rights to stream the movies and television shows. IW would have to either buy servers to host the video files or rent server space. IW would also have to pay IT personnel to maintain and troubleshoot any problems that arise in the streaming service, or with the servers.

IW would like to request an investment large enough to be able to afford the rights to stream movies and television shows from a majority of production companies. We would also need enough cash to afford server space to host the movies and television shows. The remaining costs, employee salary, marketing and, general overhead would be paid for by CEO Christopher Masullo.
