This was my first attempt at getting back into writing freshman year of college.  It in itself is about writing and music, because I love to dance and wish I could sing more elegantly.  It's a little more complicated than that, which I hope passes through to the reader.

"Our Unknown Band"

Why should I write when I can sing
Sing a song of glorified life
The hells and fortunes in which we live

Our only muse is our strife

Why just sing when one can dance
Unity is the true art of enjoyment
The only hardship is to strain the breath
When overwhelmed with merriment

Why dance and sing?
The best form of expression comes in song
to write words of meaning, words from heart
is to write lyrics to be sung and cheered
Sang and said, virtues, behaviors,
the way to waltz through life
and a way to take the lead

Rock it
Strut it
Graceful can be painful
and misery becomes simple glee
when music begins and you
make your own dance

To tell a rhyme of smiles
cannot realistically ignore frowns
screams of ecstacy versus screams of pain
in art it becomes the same
because art should reveal truth
so to you I show me
with the steps I make
My dance reflects my music, my lifelong song with our unknown band
