“How Sound Travels through an Acoustic Guitar”

Synopsis:

We're going to go over the principles of how sound travels, more specifically how sound travels through an acoustic guitar. I would like to go over each piece of the guitar and explain how it helps to create and/or propagate the sound that comes from an acoustic guitar. When I originally thought of this ideal I was thinking that this would be a good 30 second clips that could accompany a textual description on a website.

Objective:

To use graphics, video, and animation to show how the different parts of an acoustic guitar are used to produce its distinct sound. I would like to model and explain the main pieces of the guitar( body, bridge, string, sound board, frets) and explain their roles in producing and propagating sound waves. I think it would also be helpful to model the sound waves so that viewers can see how the sound travels from the strings, into the sound board and then out into the open air.

Audience:

This could be used in a high school physics class to teach certain principles about sound waves.
