“How can you convince yourself everything is okay before it all falls apart?”

-Gary Halada.

Welcome to ESG 201:  Learning from Engineering Disasters. Spring semester 2013.

In this course I expect to examine and analyze past and even recent engineering failures. We do this so we can question what went wrong to prevent it from happening again in the future. As a pre-med biology major, I can relate to this course’s goals although it is an engineering course which I know little of. Learning about medical or biology related disasters would directly interest me, because if there is a problem in medicine I would like to know about it and possibly help fix it! Ethics would also be a major relationship between my future and this course. People in medicine are always faced with struggles of their ethics, but the morally correct thing has to always be done. If it was any other way, why would that person even be in the field?
