General Chemistry (II) : CHE 132
From Stony Brook University's Undergraduate Bulletin:
CHE 132 is "a continuation of either CHE 129 or 131...including
substantial illustrative material drawn from the chemistry of inorganic, organic, and biochemical systems. The principal topics covered are stoichiometry, the states
of matter, chemical equilibrium and introductory thermodynamics, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics, electron structure and chemical bonding, and chemical periodicity. The sequence emphasizes basic concepts, problem solving, a nd factual material. It provides the necessary foundation for students who wish to pursue further coursework in chemistry."
Class Description:
I attended a lecture three days a week with approximately
500 students and a weekly recitation consisting of
approximately thirty students. The final grade in the course
is a compilation of the grades earned from the weekly online homework (smartwork), participation in recitation, "clicker" responses in lecture, and exams.
Goals for CHE 132:
First and foremost, I hope to acquire and retain knowledge that will c ome up later in my academic career as I take upper division marine science courses. On a moderately superficial note, I hope to earn a better grade in CHE 132 than I did in CHE 129. I endeavor to accomplish this by receiving high scores on my homework and by receiving an exam score in the 80% range on my first exam and exam
scores in the 90% range for my second and my final exam.
