ePortfolio Promotion at Stony Brook University
Along with my fellow ePortfolio consultants, I helped organize and execute a table to promote ePortfolios at the 2012 General Job and Internship Fair at Stony Brook University. For several hours, we spoke with students and employers attending the job fair about the process and benefits of creating an ePortfolio. We used a projector to display model ePortfolios and handed out pamphlets, checklists, and articles about ePortfolios as well as a considerable amount of candy.
The table got a little chaotic at times, but overall I believe the day was a success. In addition to the (mostly upperclassmen) students who had never heard of ePortfolios, we spoke with several students who had created an ePortfolio for a class, but had never considered using their ePortfolio professionally. We collected hundreds of names and email addresses to add to our workshop email lists and finally packed up at the end of the job fair feeling very optimistic about our future promotional endeavors.
