For this lecture, we have gone through complexity and natural disasters that are also part of the engineering failure because of the engineer's failure to construct things that are able to withstand these natural disasters. Examples of natural disasters that are discussed in the video are Hurricanes Katrina and Sandy. We have also discussed the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster and how engineers learned from this tragedy. Another topic was the 17th Street Canal breach in the New Orleans.

I have personally been affected by Hurricane Sandy since I live on Long Island. It cut off power from my house and tremendously damaged my community, though luckily my house remained in one piece. I had to go to another person's house, because they had a backup power generator! Although I have experienced a couple of hurricanes in my life, it is crazy that 40% of all U.S. hurricanes impact Florida! I have a friend that lives there and I really worry for her safety when it is hurricane season.
