The movie that the professor initially mentioned in this lecture was, in my opinion, a very biased and definitely pragmatic move to influence Americans into thinking that those part of the drilling industries are heroes or warriors for taking on this dangerous and unsustainable practice even though it is not good for the environment.

It is a good thing that we have advanced and had not needed much for coal in the United States due to its energy inefficience as well as its damage to the environment and human health. However, now, we must strive for further advancement to move past the need for fossil fuels and natural gas fracking as they are also still very detrimental to the environment. What is the point of living in a wasteland that we have drained of its resources and desertified it?

Currently I am working on setting up a project where I create a facility for this specific species of algae and bacteria. The bacteria will anaerobically digest biological wastes to produce methane and compost. After utilizing the energy in methane, it will be converted to carbon dioxide and water, which will be photosynthesized by the algae. When the algae dies, the bacteria will feed on it and the cycle continues. This will produce little to no carbon emissions, drastically reducing greenhouse gases as well as landfills that would have been home to these biological wastes whether it is uneaten food or debris from a hurricane. I believe a good engineer should not only make an efficiently powerful energy source, but also a sustainable, and non-wasteful energy source so that there are little to no externalities that would impact society or the environment around them.
