In the beginning of the semester, I was unaware of the importance of failure in the development process. Throughout the duration of the course, I was able to understand exactly what causes disasters, how they are handled, and what is done after the incident. Although this course was an engineering course, failure is not exclusive to the engineering industry. As a business major this class was beneficial in emphasizing the importance of failure. An idea or procedure is not able to evolve without the presence of error. It was also interesting to see the connection between design and finance. Companies must consider the risks that rise regarding stock and other expenses in the case of a failure. By analyzing specific examples of engineering disasters I have obtained the knowledge to aid me in viewing failure as a tool for growth rather than a restraint.
