Current Application of Robotics
Though there is much potential for problem solving in the field of robotics, there is also a great potential for recreational use. With a steady toy market, robots which accomplish trivial yet entertaining tasks for no apparent reason never cease to do well.
Furby is an example of how robotics may be used in recreation. With a creepy animatronic voice and mechanisms to move its eyes and mouth, furby operates off a circuit to output noise off a speaker and movement in its eyes and beak only for entertainment. Through minor reroutes, furby's circuit may be edited and "bent" into a musical instrument of sorts due to it's advanced audio capabilities, an example of the versatility of robotics and circuitry. Though robotics may be incredibly pragmatic at times, sometimes it's nice to have for the sake of enjoyment.
