Public workshops are taught by TLT Student Technologists. This provides us with public speaking skills and teaching skills.
This is also a great way for peer-to-peer teaching to occur because there are so many services that DoIT offers and what is better than having a student teach other students how to use it!
Preparing to teach public workshops taught me how to manage my time; be accountable; create documents that are helpful; create a lesson plan; practice my public speaking skills; make sure I can answer all questions and if i cannot provide an answer, try and find someone who can; and much more.
I have had the opportunity to create my own workshop, Completing VoiceThread Assignments on Blackboard for Students, to help students understand how to use VoiceThread and how to submit their assignments. I will go more in depth in my journey of my workshop here.
I also had the opportunity to shadow an E-Portfolio consultant as she taught various sections of WRT102 courses through the semester. With that, we noticed that a lot of students still had trouble with their E-Portfolio and a team of Student Technologists taught public E-Portfolio workshops. I was one of them.
I had the opportunity to teach along with five other Student Technologists, Kick-off Your E-Portfolio: Creating and Designing your E-Portfolio, to help students who were confused about specific aspects of E-Portfolio.
