11.1

According to the code of ethics that an engineer must abide by it is not ethically permissible to state that you are qualified when you are not. Since hypothetically you are taking the course then during the process of the job you o not have full grasp of this sophisticated software and could harm the pace and progress of the project.  Since the application clearly states a need for such a qualification then this should be stated honestly on your part and whether you are still qualified for the job is left into the hands of employer. If an employer advised me to misrepresent my qualifications for the job I would not change my standpoint on this matter as the person who will be held responsible would be me.

11.5

As an engineer your design should answer to the public welfare. The recommendation of 3 wheels over 4-wheeled vehicle is directly going against the code of conduct, and absolutely not the job of an engineer to think of the profit. Engineers should always recommend the safest possible design.

11.6

The finding of new technology should be shared with consumers. Ethically, engineers hold a responsibility towards there employers and clients as it is only fair that all parties bear the same knowledge of the product they bought. Whether there is a price adjustment is left to be decided by the employer and client themselves. The fact that there product has changed in material and product must be informed and clarified on both sides to avoid any area left for argumentation.

Value sensitive design :

“Because value sensitive design is proactive, it must proceed without ideal levels of knowledge”            ~Sandler

In many ways it seems that the value sensitive design goes against the code of ethics that engineers must abide by, however the ethics were created to ensure professional conduct and Dr. Sandler’s idea itself do not go against that.  The idea of value sensitive design ,”involves identifying value judgments in engineering design processes”. ( Sandler) This merely ensures clarity in the value of technology, which would then, chooses certain areas of technology to research and expand upon. This does not necessarily connote that it violates the conduct code in anyway . From the preamble itself the conduct code was created to, “ avoid all conflicts o interest while faithfully serving the legitimate needs and interests of their employers and clients.” (Oakes, Leone, Gunn 244) Furthermore, the issue which Value sensitive design  remotely touches upon in the codes of conduct is   the Engineer’s Obligation to Society. It states engineers must be truthful and objective which is not disrupted based on their values of certain areas and designs .
