Through my experience in ESG 100 I had learned more about the different fields of engineering and what is to be expected from each field. All of which, however, follow the essential purpose of problem solving through the creativity of their knowledge in manipulating science.  For example each fields demand a different specialization such as mechanical engineering, it is the profession of creating machine or a system that can aid society.  The focus on the mechanics and design would test the engineer’s knowledge of the products demand and the science behind it that makes it work. This in comparison to a electrical engineer who focuses on electronics, share similar interests however they are only most identical in the way a engineer solves the problem.

And also, I have finally understood why Engineering has been deemed as a professional career. The honor code that they abide by reminds me a lot of the oath a doctor would take before taking on the responsibility of saving lives. The problems that engineers face hold exactly the same if not even more responsibility. Their creations such as a building, a robot, or a machine that is massively produced impacts more than one person. The failure to ensure its safety can cause catastrophic outcomes.

From this the most important lesson I learned is that majoring in a different field is just a matter of following which specialization interests me more. And in this case I would want to major in Mechanical engineering. The final project of this class, building a photovore, made me realize that the design process of making machinery move truly interests me. The building the circuit and the skills I’ve learned from this project was a means to an end. The important was the end result and how we were able to make the photovore into a useful or rather aesthetically pleasing object.

I would reccommend this course to anyone interested in engineering but isnt sure if it were the field for them. Professor Halada gives good explanations and will guide you through most concerns about engineering. It was definitely a rewarding course to take!!
