After watching the videos for the titanic and the material impact testing, it was cool to see something that I am starting to learn in class. I am in MEC 363 Mechanics of Solids and these type of forces acting on objects and seeing what kind tension and/or torsion can change the shape and effect the whole piece. The titanic video itself was cool to see all the pictures and the models in such good condition. But it just goes to show you that the if they were able to check everything to make sure the Titanic was up to standards, there was a possibility that the sinking would not have happened. Or, if it did, the amount of time they had till the ship was submerged was increased greatly so more lives could be saved. The impact tests were also amazing to see the limits of the materials and how much force it would take for the metal to break and what way the metal breaks.
