ZAPPOS.COM'S EXTERNAL ENVIRONMENT

COMPETITORS:

  • Free Standing Stores- When a customer shops onsite, a product is available immediately, whereas online, they are waiting for a set amount of time.
  • Endless.com- This site exists under Amazon's corporate umbrella, offering more of a high end online retail experience.
  • Spartoo- This is a French online retailer with iternational appeal.
  • Shoes.com- This is another online shoe retailer.
  • Piperlime- Like Zappos, this company offers live customer service calls and stylist advice.
Unlike many other companies, Zappos has developed great relationships with suppliers.  Customers do not have bargaining power in their transactions with Zappos, instead the company posses bargaining power with suppliers.  This prevents a lot of customer service problems at customer touch points.
Zappos.Com faces constantly changing competition on the online channel.  These companies can change their prices, and attract some of Zappos's consumers.  Unfortunately, the company faces constant threats of lower pricing strategies.  Users can easily check competitor's prices with the amount of innovation created due to technological advancements.
Zappos.Com has many opportunities to gain larger market share through acquiring smaller companies.  The company did this when it bought 6pm.com and created Zappos Insights.  With the companies growing profits, acquisitions become much easier.
