Dayton creates the Dayton Foundation, which becomes Target Foundation in 2000. The purpose of the foundation was to aid in promoting the welfare of mankind anywhere in the world.  In 1920, Dayton started to use airplanes to transport goods across the country. This innovation helped start a new way of transporting merchandise across the United States.

After George Daytons death, his son George N. Dayton takes control of the company in 1938. In 1946 the Dayton Company starts giving  back five percent of its profit to the community. In the 1950's the company starts to expand outside Minneapolis.  The Dayton Company  wanted grow and start a mass market and in 1962, The Dayton Company created and opened a new retail store called Target.

Target wanted to create a better shopping experience for its guests so in 1990, Target introduces Target Greatland, a fifty percent bigger store then the normal Target.  In 1995, with the idea of giving their guest a one-stop shopping experience, Target develops SuperTarget, which has a grocery section. Since  the opening of Target, the company has expanded and flourished by developing  and innovating new ideas to make their guest have an amazing experience when shopping at Target. As of today, Target has opened about 1,800 stores in the United States, and just this year for the first time Target has opened stores in Canada.
