Promotion:

After our music is mastered, we intend on selling it on iTunes and other online distributors. We plan to put lower quality versions of the song on Soundcloud to get people interested in our sound and refer them to our iTunes page to make a purchase. We can also just refer people to the iTunes page to listen to samples.

Over the years I learned something very important in dating and in business: don't give all the information away in the beginning. You want people to wonder. Some people keep their online dating profiles short so that you can't get a full impression on them and say "no" automatically. I am usually all about the full picture, but when it comes to selling things, I may have to just give a piece.

Besides iTunes, we also look to have radio play of our songs. The thing about our music is every song sounds different. This could be a good thing and a bad thing. A lot of radio stations and fans like to hear consistency in music. To me, every ACDC song is just an inversion of one before it, and that's why they keep making the big bucks. I feel like that shows a lack of progress in their band, but it helps them to define their style and sound.

Each of our songs sound very different and as a result, that allows us to target different audiences. One song is acoustic, so that would work well on a light FM station, or an acoustic channel on Satellite radio. Another song is poppy and light, and would fit in well on a light FM station, or a mellow rock station on Satellite. The third song is more Indie/alternative and could go on FM and Satellite stations that play that genre often. The last song is an epic ballad that could fit on a classic rock station or even a pop station (since people like Adele's ballads).

We have to prepare a press kit of sorts to send out to each of these radio stations. This includes the CD in a jewel case, an mp3 version of the song, a one page paper saying who we are, why we're sending in our music, who we sound like, and where our music would best fit in on their radio show.

Below is a spreadsheet of this information:

Promotion Spreadsheet

We will hit most of the social networks and encourage people to share our music. Coming up with a logo and T-shirts should help promote our brand/band.

We could have a promotion in which we give everyone who shares our music a free song. That way they are rewarded for helping us get our music out.
