"No woman can call herself free until she can choose consciously whether she will or will not be a mother"

-Margaret Sanger

Men's control over women's bodies is not a thing of the past. For a woman to be truly free she must be in charge of her own reproductive powers. Margaret Sanger in "Birth Control: A Parents' Problem or Women's?" says "No woman can call herself free until she can choose consciously whether she will or will not be a mother". I believe that Sanger's ideas are precise. Having reproductive control is the only way in which women can achieve social, political, and economic equality with men. Becoming pregnant is a life changing event. Sarah Weddington says: "A pregnancy to a woman is perhaps one of the most determinative aspects of her life. It disrupts her body. It disrupts her education. It disrupts her employment. And it often disrupts her entire family life" Reproductive control whether it is done through abstinence, hormonal methods or abortion should be a woman's decision. These methods should be in completely accessible to a woman when she desires them. Fear of unwanted pregnancy due to rape, unattainability of birth control, negative judgment when deciding to have an abortion, or laws, should not exist; much less play a determining factor in a person’s future.
