Hello!  My name is Susan Dubois.

I am a graduate of St. Joseph’s College and received the following teaching certifications through New York State:

-Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 2)

-Childhood Education (Grades 1-6)

-Students with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2)

-Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6)

I am certified in both general and special education and have experience with a variety of students.  These certifications allow me to be versatile and able to teach in any classroom.  I performed my student teaching in 1st and 5th grade self contained and general education classrooms.  I also completed fieldwork hours in Kindergarten, 2nd grade and 4th grade inclusion.

I am an alumnus of the William Floyd School District and a graduate of St. Joseph’s College.  Presently, I am enrolled in a master’s degree program in Educational Technology at Stony Brook University.

My strengths include excellent classroom management skills, collaboration with other teachers and frequent communication with parents.   Additionally, I create interdisciplinary lessons and modify lesson presentations for struggling students.  I believe that every student learns differently, therefore it is important that lessons and class work be customized to accommodate various learning styles.

During the 2011-2012 school year I was a per diem substitute for the William Floyd School District and the Southampton School District and have substituted in virtually every environment.  These positions have afforded me invaluable teaching experience and enhanced my development as a well-rounded teacher.

During the 2012-2013 school year I’ve been fortunate to have been given unique opportunities providing exposure and hands-on experience to the next level of teaching.  For the months of September and October 2012, I was a one-on-one teacher for students with severe behaviors.  Presently, I am a 3rd grade special education leave replacement in a 15:1 classroom.   This is a 6 month assignment.

The past 4 months have been the turning point in my teaching career.  I have learned so much, in a short time.  My accomplishments include preparation for and administration of the new common core tests, learning the APPR in a compressed timeframe and striving to meet IEP goals and write IEPs.  The demands and expectations of this assignment have been significant, but I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.  Each day I enter the classroom and interact with my students reinforces my decision to enter the teaching profession.  I love my students and enjoy watching them develop and strive to improve to the best of their ability.

I communicate and collaborate with my colleagues, continually search for ways to improve and put my heart and soul into everything I do, as demonstrated during my teaching assignment at the William Floyd Elementary School.

As of now I have no definite job assignment for the 2013-2014 school year.  I look forward to finding out what the future holds for me!
