Final Project Proposal

I am currently in the process of writing a young adult novel (for 13 to 17 year olds). Some of the things I have researched so far include how to generate buzz and build up a fan base for this, in advance of it being published. To do this, social media is involved. A website needs to be created, as well as a blog, a Facebook page and a Twitter account.

Months ago I started the website and the blog. I’ve posted a total of five posts so far. My website is very basic. I need to add more pages to it and make it nicer. The art of publishing is a business after all, and I need to market myself and my book to the buying public.

Part of the marketing is securing a fan base. I need to find out how to do that. I need to be posting things on forums of websites of fledgling authors to get noticed. I also will need some help in writing the query letter to secure a literary agent. I should be able to get others to help me with these things online.

The essay portion of my project will detail the research I undertook to get this information. I will need to do a lot of research to find my genre online. As my story has a bit of fantasy/folk lore to it, this may be difficult.

Initially I thought that my audience for this is for anyone who is about to do the same thing, and promote a book they’ve written. But I am wrong in that. It will be for anyone who is looking to start a blog or improve one. Since I will also detail my adventure in website creation, it would be helpful to anyone.

I will need my laptop of course, along with Microsoft Word to complete this assignment. I also will need Adobe Photoshop in case I wish to edit photos. I will seek the advice of professionals online who will be able to direct my efforts to improve my blog, website and Facebook page.

I already have a book on how to get your novel published. It is entitled, TheEssential Guide to Getting your Book Published. It has chapters on the social media aspect of getting your book talked about online. Up until now, I haven’t really needed those chapters. But since I also don’t want to take their word for it, I will do some research online as well.
