Librarian – Reference, Instruction, Research, Virtual Library Development

 

Reference  – Provide the full range of reference services to faculty and students using both print and electronic resources.  Deliver formal and informal Virtual library training sessions and provide assistance with research and student assignments.  Assist students and faculty with computer use and helping them with numeric data handling, statistics, and analytical related projects and assignments. Participate in professional development activities for librarians and faculty including serving on library committees for process improvement and library renovation planning.  Systems administrator for  Turnitin, (anti plagiarism software) and coordinator for COS Grants, Internships & Scholarships database use by students. 

 

Instruction - Develop and teach subject specific IL classes for students in using both print and electronic resources across disciplines focusing on integration of technologies and enhancing critical thinking skills.  These hands-on classes include: the virtual library catalog, electronic databases, and web resources. Design and implement faculty workshops to incorporate Information Literacy skills and assignments into the curriculum. Created new faculty workshops for the following tools: Turnitin (plagiarism prevention), COS (Community of Science) Grants database, Google Toolbox and Career Information using O*Net and Occupational Outlook Handbook online.  Speciality area is integrating technologies into the classroom.

 

Research – Primary researcher for proposal of Graduate level programs in Engineering and Business. Research package included: nationwide enrollment statistics for associates, bachelors, and masters level programs in Telecommunications engineering on a state, local and national basis.  Library researcher assigned to the Provost to gather data on the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the Professional Science Masters (PSM). Report included:  nationwide programs in support of the grant application for Professional Science Masters funding.

 

Virtual Library Development / Web Site Management – Edit, maintain and update the Virtual library web site in HTML. This includes: review of current pages and correcting broken links, updating pages to reflect new services, creating new pages for subject specific resources and new holdings to use in our virtual library training classes.  Design and development of web pages for special events, such as the library Open House, mini-workshops for students, and faculty workshops. Designed and implemented new web pages for the Information Literacy program and the new library portal.

 

Technical Services – Library support contact for implementation and maintenance of Serials Solutions periodicals interface. Support contact for OPAC interface end user issues and improvements. Work with vendor on product  customization to our databases and services.
