Every semester, I develop and deliver assessment-related workshops to faculty and TAs. The most frequently asked question I have got from my audience is the difference between assessment and evaluation. Evaluation gets its bad reputation because of its association to judgment, punishment, and resource reallocation. Assessment, coming with a better intent as continuous improvements, should be conducted and used properly. Otherwise, assessment will be just another word for evaluation.
